Having moved from North Bradford to Cleckheaton, I have realised this area of south Bradford is poorly served by any railway. Nearest station is Brighouse, which has less poulation than Cleckheaton! I have seen the new 2+ Lane on the M62, which is of no use to the majority of the travelling public. Its cost of 4 million could have been spent on bringing a spur of Oakenshaw junction south, on the old trackbed (still intact as the spen greenway), over the M62 into Tescos with a halt station like Brighouse. This would be easy to do, and the car park could act as a park&ride. If buses were intergrated to serve the station and outer villages like Gomersal, Scholes, etc. it would be very successful. The existing Leeds Bradord service could serve the Cleckheaton branch, providing the residents of Spen with services to Bradford, Pudsey, Leeds and beyond. Due to the congestion on the M62 it could be faster on well!!
Ultimately the line should be re-instated south, to serve Heckmondwike and Dewsbury Moor, with a Semi-fast service to Sheffield. Why is there no campaign (like SELRAP)?

The spen valley line benefits from having existing route that hasn't been sold off for development and existing track - thus would be relatively easy to re-instate.

When Low Moor is reopened it should be possible to have a shuttle service connecting Cleckheaton with Low Moor to connect with trains on the Manchester-Halifax-Bradford-Leeds-York line and the Blackpool-Preston-Halifax-Bradford-Leeds-York-Scarborough line.

Reinstatement of the Spen Valley line further south could link the shuttle service to the Leeds-Huddersfield-Manchester line and give even greater value to the community.
